It's similar to artistic perspective, ranges of plasma behavior, and behavior of populations. Multiple models are useful for accurate descriptions. Some like perspective are relatively simple: 1-point perspective is a simplified case of 2-point; 2-point is a special case of 3-point perspective; and 3-point is a subset of curvilinear (5-point) perspective. Plasma scales require different assumptions regarding parameters and relevant variables as you scale from laboratory to cosmic dimensions. But each model can give you insights about the behavior even if the various mathematical relationships are not the same on paper.

I never thought about the fact that on a large enough scale you can either be straight, or level, but not both. Cool!
